Evaluation of welfare in the rearing of wild boar: preliminary results [Umbria (Italy)]

The aim of this work is the evaluation of different reactions of some no specific immunity parameters: haemolytic complement activity, serum lysozyme, serum bactericide activity in different environmental situations. We studied two groups of wild boars (outdoor kept and free wild boar) to evaluate the influence of the rearing environment and of the season. The results raised some interesting questions referred to the reaction of no specific immunity system that is stressed during Winter season. On the contrary, no important differences between outdoor kept and free wild boars were observed. Thermal discomfort (cold) compromises their innate immunity status, making them much more susceptible to other stressors or specific diseases

In questi ultimi anni, infatti, si è avuto un aumento del numero degli allevamenti di cinghiale, soprattutto in regioni come l'Umbria e la Toscana. Per motivazioni non più prettamente venatorie, ma di tipo commerciale e turistico, sono state confrontatie, attraverso la valutazione di parametri di immunità aspecifica, le reazioni degli animali all'ambiente di allevamento in fasi stagionali diverse.
