This investigation was conducted to determine the effects of water stress on the yield of alfalfa. It internals to determine yield production. The experiment was carried out at Chahartakhteh research station in 1999-2002. Irrigation method was a line source sprinkler system. In this method, sprinkler distribution pattern is triangular and crop water stress increases by getting a way from water supply line. Six depth water levels (I1 to I6) were considered as experiment treatments. During the growing season before each irrigation, the soil moisture content in I1 treatment was measured by gravimetric to 60 cm depth. Irrigation depth in all treatments was measured by catch cans. Fresh and dry yield measured in each plot. According to the results, Maximum and minimum mean yield of fresh and dry was at I1 (56.43, 15.84 Ton/ha) to I6 (9.43,4.5 Ton/ha) treatments respectively. Alfalfa production function in the form of: Y=0.16129X– 0.02 (R2=0.902) was developed, where X is water irrigation in cm and Y is dry yield in Ton/ha . The maximum and minimum water use efficiency (WUE) was at I1(1.63 Kg/m3) to I4 (1.56 Kg/m3) treatments respectively.
