Study on reaction of chickpea international lines to Ascochyta blight in dryland areas.

Ascochyta blight is the most important disease of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in Iran. This study was conducted for evaluating 40 lines of chickpea along with susceptible check (ILC 263) through Iran-ICARDA colleboration at Sararood Station in Kermanshah and Gachsaran station. The expriment materials were sown in mist system condition at field. Each entry was planted in one row with 4m long, susceptible check (ILC 263) was sown after every two entries as spreader-indicator and inoculated by scattering ascochyta blight diseased chickpea debris. During three steps were recorded for Ascochyta blight on a scale of 1 to 9, proposed by Singh and Reddy in 1993. In Kermanshah and Ghachsaran stations, disease had sufficient progress on the tested lines in the field.. The results of present study in the Kermanshah showed that from 40 lines, line FLIP 97-173C was very resistant, 24 lines were resistant, 12 lines were Moderately resistant, 3 lines were tolerant in the Ghachsaran station, 19 lines were resistant, 14 lines were moderately resistant and 7 lines were tolerant (tables 1). The differential reaction of many lines tested in these locations indicates the presence of variability in A. rabiei.
