Effects of sowing date, seed rate and row spacing on yield and yield components of canola (RGS003 variety) in Gonbad.

In order to study the effects of sowing date, seed rate and row spacing on vegetative characters, yield and yield components of canola (RGS003 variety), an experiment was conducted at agricultural research station of Gonbad during 2003– 2005. The experiment was a split plot factorial arranged in a RCBD with 4 replications. Three sowing dates (Nov. 6th, Nov. 21st and Dec. 6th) were as main plots and Three seed rates (4, 7 and 10 kg/ha) and two row spacing (12 and 24 cm) were subplots in a factorial form. Delaying in sowing date decreased the number of days from emergence to physiological maturity, because of the shorting in vegetative and reproductive stages. The first sowing date had the highest grain yield, because of a good temperature conditions of beginning of the growth season, seedling sooner standing, stronger plants and higher the number of pods per plant. The mean grain yield of first, second and third sowing dates was 3512, 2827 and 2742 kg/ha, respectively. Because the grain yield variation with increase of seed rates in two years of experiment had different trend, therefore the year*seed rate interaction was significant. In first year of experiment the grain yield decreased with increase of seed rate because of the producing higher plants and better conditions for plants lodging, whereas there was not this trend in second year of experiment. The grain yield decreased with increase of row spacing. The mean grain yield of 12 and 24 cm row spacing was 3158 and 2896 kg/ha, respectively. Finally with regard to two year results of experiment and farmer conditions, the second decade of Aban (Nov. 1st-10th) sowing date, 6-8 kg/ha seed rate and 12-18 cm row spacing are recommended for canola planting in Gonbad and Kalaleh area. Also RGS003 variety with a good grain yield and agronomy factors can be planted in the area, with Hyola 401, Hyola 308 and Hyola 330 Hybrids.
