The plants belong to the Graminae and Poaceae families are affected by M. naasi. The turf grass is one of the major hosts of this nematode. In spite of prohibition of importation of soil by Plant Protection Act, the import permition for importation of 9150 m2 natural rolling turf sport from the Netherlands for turf carpeting of main football playground of Azadi Sport Complex was issued without prior coordination with Plant Protection Organization in the year 2002. Barley root knot nematode M. naasi was detected and identified from the rolling turf sport sample. The amount of adult female nematode infection was very severe in the roots. In 500 cc soil about 2000 second stage larvae were counted. Since there is no report of M. naasi from Iran so far and it also is listed as a quarantine pest in Iran A1 Quarantine pests List, according to the Article 10 of the Plant Protection Act the importation of the rolling turf sport from the Netherlands was prevented. The Netherlands Plant Protection Services confirmed the detection and identification of M. naasi from the rolling turf sport sample
