Report of Leucostoma niveum on aspen [Populus tremula L.; Sicily]

إنجليزي. This paper reports the first observation of the fungus Leucostoma niveum in natural populations of aspen (Populus tremula L.) in Italy. Symptoms of the infection are cankers on the trunk and branches, withering of the tree canopy and death. Artificial inoculations have revealed the pathogenicity of the fungal species. The disease is present, in particular; in stations having a shallow, rocky soil and seems to be favoured by an environmental condition of water stress

L'infezione si manifesta con cancri su tronco e rami, disseccamenti della chioma e morie. Le inoculazioni artificiali hanno dimostrato la patogenicità della specie fungina. La malattia, diffusa specialmente in stazioni caratterizzate da substrati rocciosi e poco profondi, sembra favorita da condizioni ambientali determinanti stress di natura idrica
