إنجليزي. The Council Directive on waste (75/442/EEC), the Council Directive on hazardous waste (91/689/EEC) and the waste shipment Regulation (Reg. EEC 259/93) are the reference legislation for compost production in Europe. At national level, the Law Decree 22/97 (Ronchi Decree) consolidates the previous legislations, outlines the results to reach regarding waste recycling and attributes to Law 748/84 (at present repealed in force of the new D. Lgs 217/06) jurisdiction about physico-chemical characteristics of compost to be used as fertilizer; The Decree of the Ministry of Environment, February 5th, 1998, establishes conditions for compost production in a simplified procedure regime

La normativa di riferimento sul compost a livello europeo comprende la Direttiva Quadro sui rifiuti (75/442/CEE), la Direttiva sui rifiuti pericolosi (91/689/CEE) e il Regolamento sul trasporto dei rifiuti (Reg. CEE 259/93). Questi sono integrati successivamente da normative riguardanti il trattamenti dei rifiuti e le operazioni di smaltimento. A livello nazionale, il Decreto Legislativo 22/97 (Decreto Ronchi) ha unificato le precedenti legislazioni e definito i risultati da raggiungere in termini di recupero della frazione organica dei rifiuti solidi urbani e di riciclaggio. Inoltre, ha attribuito alla legge 748/84 (oggi abrogata e sostituita dal D. Lgs. 217/06) tutte le competenze riguardanti l'impiego di compost come fertilizzante. Il Decreto attuativo 5 febbraio 1998, infine, stabilisce le condizioni alle quali si può operare facendo ricorso a procedure semplificate
