Preliminary investigation on the uneven ripening of banana peel following 1-MCP treatment [Musa sp.; 1-methylcyclopropene]

إنجليزي. Mature green bananas (Musa sp., AAA group, Cavendish subgroup, cv Williams) from Coffs Harbour (NSW, Australia), were used to examine the uneven degreening of banana peel treated with 1-MCP. After ethylene treatment (200 micronl/l for 24 h at 20 deg C), bananas were allocated in different treatment units: 1-MCP treatment (200 nl/l, 20 deg C, 24 h), nitrogen treatment (O20.1%, 20 deg C, 24 h), ethanol treatment (0.3 ml/l, 20 deg C, 24h), chilling treatment (0-2 deg C, 24 h) and untreated control (20 deg C). After these post-ripening treatments (24 h), fruits were stored in perforated plastic bags at 20 deg C. Ethylene, respiration, ethanol and acetaldehyde production, skin colour, chlorophyll fluorescence, chlorophyll content, firmness were assessed at regular intervals. Ethylene production was not affected by the 1-MCP treatment 24 h after initiating ripening. However, peel de-greening, the decrease in chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence were delayed with 1-MCP treatment. No accumulation of acetaldehyde and ethanol was detected during storage. There was some general browning throughout the 1-MCP treated peel in both the green and yellow areas of the ripening peel. It appears the 1-MCP treated peel 24 h after ethylene treatment may still undertake some normal senescence that occurs during banana ripening

Dopo il trattamento con etilene (200 micronl/l per 24 h a 20 gradi C), le banane sono state sottoposte a diversi trattamenti: 1-MCP (200 nl/l, 20 gradi C, 24 h), atmosfera di azoto (O20.1%, 20 gradi C, 24 h), trattamento con etanolo (0.3 ml/l, 20 gradi C, 24h), esposizione a basse temperature (0-2 gradi C, 24 h) e controllo non trattato (20 gradi C). Dopo questi trattamenti post-maturazione (24 h), i frutti sono stati posti in buste di polietilene perforate a 20 gradi C. Produzione di etilene, respirazione, produzione di etanolo e acetaldeide, colore della buccia, contenuto di clorofilla, fluorescenza della clorofilla e consistenza della polpa sono stati monitorati a intervalli regolari. La produzione di etilene non è stata influenzata dal trattamento con 1-MCP a 24 h dall'inizio della maturazione. Comunque, fenomeni quali la perdita del colore verde, la diminuzione del contenuto e dei valori di fluorescenza della clorofilla venivano ritardati dal trattamento con 1-MCP. Nessun accumulo di acetaldeide ed etanolo è stato osservato durante la conservazione. E' risultato invece evidente un generale imbrunimento sia nelle aree verdi, sia in quelle gialle della buccia delle banane trattate con 1-MCP. La buccia di questi frutti dopo il trattamento con etilene potrebbe ancora intraprendere i normali processi di senescenza che avvengono durante la maturazione della banana
