Japanese instant noodle: Manufacturers and its business in global marketplace

The domestic market for instant noodles has been matured without any sharp increase or decrease. It seems difficult to produce new best selling products, such as Cup Noodle in Japan. On the contrary, the worldwide market for instant noodles has expanded year by year and it has reached around 80 billion servings in calendar 2004 according to the International Ramen Manufactures Association (IRMA) and will continue to expand in the foreseeable future. The data shows that Asia accounts for about 90% of the total demand. Japanese instant-noodle manufactures have made their efforts to expand sales and its market share around the globe. In this article, I discuss the growing global market for instant noodles and the relevant activities of Japanese manufactures, with a special focus on China, Vietnam and North America markets.
