'Kanpei' is a new cultivar of mandarin-type that was bred from hybrid seedlings. It was produced in 1991 by crossing the 'Nishinokaori' and 'Shiranui' varieties. This new variety is characterized by good tree vigor, with primarily upright growth until the onset of fruit set. Thorns are initially robust but become smaller, and branches bearing fruit are thornless. The average weight of the fruit is approximately 250g. The shape is compressed, and the skin color is orange. The fruit surface is smooth-medium. The peeling is easy. The peel is thin and peel puffing is rare. Fruits are usually seedless, but flowers are pollinated with surrounding other cultivars, fruit may contain a few seeds. Eaten feeling is firmly makes and is peculiar, and the edible quality is good. The sugar content rating of more than 13 Brix and a citric acid content of approximately l%. The fruit cracking occurs easily in autumn of summer. Therefore, the measures are necessary.
