Commercial orientation of intraregions and districts in Kurzeme [Latvia]

The article focuses on the discussion of the research results related to the commercial guidance of Kurzeme intra-regions and districts, on dairy-farming and pig-breeding as the main production sectors, as well as on other auxiliary sectors. Kurzeme is divided into three intra-regions for the purpose of the research. The research results lead to the conclusion that the level of commercial production and the level of farms producing goods considerably differ in Kurzeme intra-regions and the difference increases in North-West and South-East direction; the highest level is reached in Saldus district. Dairy-farming is mostly developed in South-Eastern Kurzeme. Pig-breeding is recently more and more developing in Western Kurzeme with the simultaneous development of the secondary sphere. Small cattle and small animal breeding as an auxiliary sector is expanding in all intra-regions, while specialised farms practise without advertising.
