Importance of antioxidants for breeders

Natural antioxidants play an important role in poultry reproduction. Among them vitamin E and selenium have recently received a substantial attention. In particular semen quality and quality of hatching eggs are dependent on optimal antioxidant supplementation. Indeed, levels of vitamin E supplementation of breeder's diets increased more than 3 times for the last 10 years. Introduction of organic selenium into poultry diets shown will be effective in improving both male and female reproduction abilities. The aim of this review is a brief analysis of the recent developments in antioxidant nutrition of breeders.
