This year the 5th General Assembly of the Union of European Academies for Science Applied to Agriculture, Food and Nature (UEAA) will take place. We believe that the topic chosen for the general Assembly Associated Workshop 'Renewable Energy Resources, Production and Technologies' will lead to important discussions and further investigations in this field. Year 2008 involves many discussions in Latvia concerning the theme of Alternative Energy Resources. On 10-12 May 2008, the conference on the topic 'Renewable Energy - the Future Perspective in the Baltic Region' was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia. Besides, investigations on possibilities to use alternative resources are made in Latvia University of Agriculture and other institutions, several books have been published related to the topic. I believe that the associated workshop on Renewable Energy Resources and Technologies will promote further investigations in this topic. Further investigation of the topic will be also performed by the Latvian Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (LAAFS). The objective of the LAAFS is to unify and to organize the scientific potential in the fields of agriculture, food, engineering sciences, agrarian economy and wood to promote solving of actual problems.
