Involvement of the CLSU secondary school faculty in intruction, research and extension services: implications to educational management

This study was undertaken to find out the involvement of the Central Luzon State University secondary school faculty in instruction, research, and extension services from school year 2003-2004 to 2005 - 2006. The respondents in this study were 44 faculty members of the five secondary schools of CLSU. These are the University Science High School (USHS) with 14 faculty members, Agricultural Science and Technology School (ASTS) with 10, and University Laboratory High Schools (ULHS) in Bibiclat (7), Palusapis (5), and Pinili (8). Survey questionnaire with two parts was used to gather necessary data from the respondents. Descriptive statistics was used to determine the profile and output of the respondents. Pearson's Product Moment Correlation identified the relationship of the respondents' profile and output, and involvement in instruction, research and extension services. Analysis of Variance was used to assess the differences among the five secondary schools in the tri-focal thrust of Central Luzon State University. Majority of the respondents were masters degree holder, major in non-science subjects and have academic rank of instructor. The mean length of teaching experience was 13.79 years. Majority were handling 1 to 2 subjects and member of professional, honor, or scientific organizations. They obtained a very satisfactory teaching performance in the faculty evaluation and have attended mostly local seminar-workshops and trainings. The respondents were least involved in developing instructional materials, researches and extension activities. Among the profiles of the respondents, academic rank and status of appointment greatly influenced them to develop instructional materials. Also educational attainment and length of service showed relationship with instructional material development. In research, only educational attainment showed high correlation. The knowledge acquired by the respondents in advance education contributed a lot to their skills to undertake researches. Also, the respondents with higher academic rank were more involved in extension services. No significant difference was found among the faculty of the five secondary schools of CLSU in their involvement in instruction, research and extension services. This implied that the respondents have similar involvement in these three-fold functions of the university.
