The experiment to compare the performance of 11 sugarcane promising clones/varieties was carried out during 2004-2006 at the Sugarcane Research Institute, Faisalabad under the standard practices of crop management. The genotypes under investigations were HoTh-236, CP80-1827, CP87-1628, MS91-CP582, CP81-1254, CP92-1167, 52001-US400, CP85-1491, S96-SP1215, S98-SP108 and HSF-240 (Check). Different genotypes behaved differently for the quantitative and qualitative characters. The promising clone CP85-1491 showed the highest germination (52.31%) where as 52001-US400, CP85-1491 and S96-SP1215 produced the greatest number (130600,132300,137400 ha-1) of millable canes. The lowest number of millable canes was recorded from the plots of HoTh-236 (73520ha-1), (MS91-CP 582 (76850 ha-1) and CP80-1827 (82900 ha-1). Maximum cane length 298cm was produced by the canes of S96-SP 1215 as against the least one 226.3 cm indicated by MS91-CP582. The promising clon es 52001 - US 400, CP85- 1491, and S96-SP1215, indicated the highest yield at 116.7, 117.8, and 118.3 that, respectively. S98-SP108 and HoTh-36 was the least yielder. CP81-1254 and CP85-1491 were at the top in sugar recovery percentage at 12.87 and 12.32 %, respectively. It was concluded that though the promising clone CP85-1491 was the best in its performance yet a sugarcane clone must be tested in all its respects before its recommendation for general cultivation.
