Forecasted climate changes will increase of natural disaster numbers in European countries that will be a consequence of increasing varibility and frequency of weather-related events. The aim of this paper was to pay attention to threats and socio-economical effects caused by extreme weather events. Information gathered from EM-DAT database, related to natural disasters that took place in Europe in 1994-2004 years were analysed. The increasing frequency of weather-related disasters occurrence was observed in considered period. The most frequently occurring phenomena, which caused the most deaths and damage costs were floods, permanently observed in France. The most substantial number of mortal victims in Europe was also notice, besides floods, as the result of extreme temperatures. According to predicted global climate changes, the number of natural catastrophes in European countries will rise as a result of extreme events of weather increase. So, we should consider the fact that major number of habitats of our continent will be put in danger
