Three serovars such as S. enteritidis (68 percent), S. dublin (16 percent) and S. typhimurium (16 percent) have been identified among 44 Salmonella isolates of fowl origin. The isolates revealed a relatively high sensitivity to antibiotics. All the isolates were susceptible to amoxycillin, cefotaxim, colistin, norfoxacin and enrofloxacin. Some strain were less sensitive to doxycyclin (18 isolates) and minocylin (3 isolates). Drug resistance was found occasionally for the following antibiotics: tatracylin (S. enteritidis - 1 isolate, S. dublin - 1), doxycyclin (S. enteritidis - 3, S. dublin - 1), neomycin (S. enteritidis - 1) and flumequine (S. enteritidis - 1). In two isolates multiple drug resistance was noted. Salmonella produced 6 different enzymes. All the isolates produced alcaline and acid phosphatase. Most of them additionally produced esterase, esterase lipase and leucine arylamidase. One isolate (S. typhimurium) produced naphol-AS-BI-phosphohydrolase
