Fertility restoration and agronomic traits in winter triticale hybrids with T. timopheevi cytoplasm

The studies concern fertility restoration and yield structure as well as grain quality of F1 triticale hybrids with T. timopheevi cytoplasm. Among twenty studied hybrids only two exhibited full fertility. None of the genotypes maintained male sterility. A majority of hybrids showed a partial male fertility. The number of grains per ear in hybrids was however similar to that of parents which indicates that triticale is tolerant to not complete fertility restoration. The hybrids produced higher yield and showed higher level of other agronomic traits, with nutrient contents in grains being similar to that of the parental forms
