Researches of optical properties of leaves and shoots were conducted in a range of 400-1100 nm (PAR and NIR) on the herbaceous plants. Japanese knotweed and topinambur (Helianthus tuberosus) as well as on lignified ones: birch and beech. The shoots from trees at different ages were examined. The measurements included reflection, absorption, and transmission of irradiance. In the leaf's reflection in the PAR range equals 7-12 percent, absorption 63-87 percent, transmission 5-26 percent. In the shoots of herbaceous plants, the reflection equalled 14-17 percent, and then irradiation was almost totally absorbed during penetration through tissues in the direction of the pith. Spectral curves of herbaceous plants were very similar, but in the case of trees, there were observed significant differences in the PAR and NIR range
