The present paper gives an overview of the sources of Cr introduction into the soil and discusses Cr soil content, accumulation and distribution as well as possible soil contamination by this element. The two main sources of soil pollution by Cr and other heavy metals are the native substrate on which the soil has formed and anthropogenic contamination. The native substrate is a natural sources of Cr and other heavy metals found in the soil, and one man has no control over. With industrial development, anthropogenic sources of heavy metals have become major pollutants. Their introduction into the soil must be prevented or at least controlled by man, so that human beings as end users of the soil-plant-man system are provided with biologically safe food.
