In this paper the modern stunning methods from the animal welfare point of view are presented. Very important factors for the animal welfare and also meat quality are the minimum of excitement and physical strain before slaughter, immediate unconsciousness by stunning, applying of irreversible stunning methods, horizontal bleeding, short stun-to-stick-interval and effective sticking of animals.
