For the first time the detailed research results of medical and biological safety estimation of transgenic lines of soya (3 lines), maize (6), sugar beet (1), rice (1) and potato (1), resistant to herbicides and pests are presented. A whole section of the book is given to each line. The control system in Russia (structure, organization, methods) for food production from genetically modified organisms (GMO) of plant origin is considered. One chapter is given to the results of monitoring of these products in 2001-2006. The percentage of this output in domestic market of Russia in 2004-2006 averaged to 6.8-12% of the total products which have genetically modified analogues according to data of Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being and Research and Development Institute of Nutrition. There are products of soya processing (15-35% subject to regions), of maize processing (0.5-3% ) among them at a rate of total products made from soya and maize respectively. The principles and techniques of transgenic plant production are understandably reported and the state of current production in the world is shown. Also legislative control of GMO food production is considered. The book contributes to dataware of modern innovation technologies and to overcoming the prejudice of consumers to GMO.
