The influence of peroral application of 10% water solutions of sodium acetate and calcium acetate on the level of glucose in blood of healthy cows, as well as remedies recovering the motor activity of proventriculi by activating them compared to an extract of white hellebore. A reduction of glucose in the blood of healthy animals depended on a dosage of sodium and calcium acetates. The preparations of sodium and calcium acetates were administered perorally to sick cows at doses of 0.4; 0.5; 0.6 g/kg and 0.2; 0.3; 0.4 g/kg, respectively 1, 2 and 3 times with an interval of 10-12 h; the hellebore extract – at the dose of 5 ml/head once a day. The therapeutic efficacy of the extract was 100% (after 1 injection – 50.0%, 2 – 33.3% and 3 – 16.7%). The optimum therapeutic dose of sodium acetate was 0.5 g/kg, calcium acetate – 0.4 g/kg. After the first administration of sodium acetate clinical recovery was observed in 83.3% of animals after 5.9-7.8 h, and after the second administration – in 16.7% after 4-4.7 h, calcium acetate used at the dose of 0.4 g/kg also promoted the recovery of rumen motor activity having shown 100% already 1.6-2.0 h after the preparation was given for the first time. It is concluded that sodium and calcium acetates used perorally cause a decrease of glucose content in the bloods of clinically healthy cows. The hellebore extract having 100% therapeutic efficacy with a single administration may cause persistent activation of the vomiting center without recovering the ruminal motor activity. Effects of sodium acetate used perorally at the optimum dose of 0.5 g/kg exceed that of the hellebore extract but is not as good as calcium acetate. After using calcium acetate at the therapeutic dose of 0.4 g/kg clinical recovery is observed in all the morbid animals 3-4 times quicker compared to sodium acetate.
