Fruit quality prediction on cherry-plum cultivars on the basis of chemical analysis
2007

Some selection traits (content of dry matter, monosaccharides, sucrose, total sugar, ascorbic acids, leucoanthocyans, pectins and fruit weight) were studied. The results of long-term (within 6 grow seasons) investigations in different cherry-plum (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.) cultivars showed that content of dry matter directly correlated to content of ascorbic acids, leucoanthocyans, water soluble pectin, protopectin and total amount of pectins. Cultivars of high dry matter content synthesize the fruit tissues later as compared with soft-fruited cultivars. The lack of close correlations between fruit weight and fruit biochemical traits indicates that large-fruit cultivars with harmonious sweet-sour taste can be selected in the course of breeding. Creation of sweet cherry-plum fruits is unlikely.
