The soil variability of the forest communities on the mountain Tara (Serbia) is very height. The soil types and subtypes are defined based on the profile morphology, parent rock and pedogenetic processes. Tha main feature of the mountain Tara soil cover are the soils formed on limestones. The soils on limnestone are characterised by great spatial variability. The differences in the production potential between the soil on limestones in the series with horn slate and the soil on compact limestones, result primarily from the differences in physical characteristics. The presence of the diabase-horn slate formation in the massif Zvezda and Tara makes the structure of the soil cover more complex.
