A feeding trial, using Brachiaia obtusiflora (Hochst.) Stapf. seeds (Urn Chirr) in broiler chicks rations, was conducted. The seeds substituted part of sorghum at 5%, 10%, 15% and 25% of the diet. Chemical analysis of the seeds was performed, and on the basis of the results the metabolizable energy content was calculated to be 3083 kcaVkg, but the actual value of 2773 kcaVkg was obtained. Weight gain of the experimental birds, raised up to 38 days of age, was improved significantly (P 0.05) by feeding 5% Urn Chirr seeds, however, the growth response to 10% and 15% was not significantly different from that of the control group, while the growth of chicks was significantly (P 0.05) impaired by feeding 25% Urn Chirr seeds. The dietary treatments had no significant effects on feed intake and feed: weight gain ratio, and there was no significant effect of Urn Chirr seeds on mortality rate. Based on the chemical analysis of the seeds and the results of the present feeding trial, it appears that Urn Chirr might be a possible new poultry feed ingredient
