When solving the problem of municipal water supply with healthy potable water, groundwaters appear as one of the most important resources that can satisfy such needs in Serbia. Their utilization is bound to alluvial aquifers, developed along the rivers, i.e. their alluvial plains. All the same, these plains represent fertile valleys with developed agricultural production with the usage of all artificial fertilizers and preparations for plant protection. Their liquation through pedological layer can endanger the quality of groundwaters. Namely, the sources of groundwaters used for municipal waters supply are located in the zone of the rivers that can also be bearers of active pollutions, which originate from municipal and industrial waste waters. Country settlements concentrated in river valleys also present great danger to the quality of groundwaters, since they dispose of waste waters in individual septic tanks that can easily reach the aquifer. The endangerment significantly originates from local dumps formed on farms which present concentrated polluters of groundwaters. Therefore, environment protection is precaution with regard to maintenance of groundwater quality as well as health care.
