In this paper the continuously variable transmissions (CVT) of contemporary agricultural tractors is analysed. The currently used tractor power split CVT with hydrostatic drive significantly improves both the tractor traction and fuel consumption economy. Further directions of CVT development are based on usage of continual frictional transmissions and introduction of pure electrical and hybrid diesel-electrical drive of tractors.
