The raising of lambs in nurseries is an effective way to breed lambs of dairy breeds. The aim of the experiment was to characterize selected ethological manifestations in lambs (n=31) during their stay in nurseries. Lambs were gradually let out of the nursery to the group of mothers. During the settled 5 minutes interval a number of traits were noticed. Beginning of suckling after opening the nursery (BS) was significantly affected by the genotype of mother (P less than 0.05) and age of lambs (P less than 0.001). The trait number of suckling was markedly affected by the factor litter size (P less than 0.001), single lambs suckled 3.81 times and twins 2.78 times on average. The trait total time of suckling (TTS) was affected significantly by the genotype of mother (P less than 0.05), litter size and age of lambs as well (P less than 0.001). TTS of single lambs was 152.29 seconds on average, whereas twins suckled 117.35 seconds (P less than 0.05). With rising age of lambs decreased their interest in sucking their mothers, and the interest in sucking other ewes decreased also. Lambs with later BS ended suckling later as a rule (r=0.405+++). Lambs suckling more often sucked shorter period of time as a rule (r=-0.527+++).
