Agricultural intensification and specialisation accelarated the field erosion, pollution of water sources and caused biodiversity loss. Also new threats are obvious, raised by inadequate grazing and land abandonment. Many programs of previous governments supporting amelioration, irrigation and land consolidation widely influenced the development of agricultural production capacities and fanning intensity. Radical decrement of sources exploitation in agriculture in nineties tough squeezed the environment burden. Accession to EU means new challenges also in aspect of reformed Common Agricultural Policy to build better conditions on sustain the environment quality. Particular effort will be need to evolve by the implementation of good agricultural practice, agroenvironmental programs and extention, maintain the mutual requests and support the environmental investments, saving technologies and animal welfare. All these aproacheses are formalized in the proposed steps for the slovak strategy of multifunctional sustainable agriculture.
