The research of growth characteristics of poplar I--214, Pannonia, Gigant and Palarikovo was conducted in 5-year old series of research plots Mogyoroszog, cadastral area Leles, on non-flooded alluvia of Latorica river in Eastern Slovakian lowland. The poplars were cultivated intensively on respective partial research plots in square spacing 4 . 4. It follows from the results that poplar Pannonia had the best height and diameter growth as well as maximal basal area and volume production. It reached in its 5th year mean height 10.5 m, mean diameter 10.8 cm and standing volume according to large wood volume 11.250 cubic m, while according to the volume of tree the standing volume was 20,000 cubic m per one hectare. On the contrary poplar Palarikovo lags behind the best one substantially. It had mean height 8.1 m; mean diameter 8.2 cm, standing volume based on large wood volume 6.875 cubic m and according to tree volume the standing volume was 11.250 cubic m per one hectare. It will be necessary to complement the data and specify them by next research as poplars had low age.
