Study on integrated insect pests management to reduce durian seed borer (Mudaria luteileprosa Holloway) problem for export durian was carried out in the farmers orchard in Chantaburi during October 2001 to September 2002. Three different protection measures including early fruit bagging (6 weeks after fruit setting) using translucent plastic bag, late bagging (10 weeks after fruit setting) after using chemical control, and only chemical control compared with water spray as a control treatment. Experiment was conducted by using RCB with 4 treatments and 5 replications (2 trees with at least 75 fruits each per replication). All durian fruits in this experiment (3,645 fruits) were cut open to check durian seed borer damage. The result shows that there was no infestation of the durian seed borer in all protection measures while the control treatment was at 5.44 percent. For other insect pests, early bagging had mealybug infestation at 5.02 percent whereas other treatments had 14.02-17.98 percent. In this study, side effect of fruit bagging on quality aspects of durian fruit such as color of peel, color of flesh, and size also were recorded. It was found that there was only slight difference. In the second part, the efficacy of some insecticides in controlling the durian seed borer were tested as an option of protection for farmers. Experiment was carried out in the farmers orchard in Chantaburi during October 2002 to September 2003, by using RCB with 7 treatments and 4 replications (1 tree with at least 50 fruits per replication). The treatments comprised 5 insecticides namely carbaryl (Sevin 85 percent WP), deltamethrin (Decis 3 percent EC), lambda-cyhalothrin (Karate Zeon 2.5 percent CS), beta-cyfluthrin (Folitec 2.5 percent EC) and cypermethrin/phosalone (Parzon 6.25/22.5 percent EC) compared with fruit bagging and water spray as the control treatments. The result reveals that all insecticides gave 100 percent control of durian seed borer whereas the control treatment had 11.43 percent damage.
