Field experiment was conducted to study the effect of chicken manure (CM) application method on cassava yield. It was carried out in sandy loam soil (fine-loamy, siliceous, Oxic Paleustults) at Ubon Ratchathani Field Crops Research Center, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand (15 deg 14 lipda North, 105 deg 02 lipda East) between April 2001 and March 2003. The experiment was designed in RCB with 4 replications. Cassava variety Rayong 5 was planted 1*1 m in spacing. Rice-husk mixed CM (800 kg/rai) was applied, either single or split application at planting, 1 or 2 months after planting, compared to control treatment (non-fertilization). The results showed that CM application enhanced yield and yield components but had no effect on starch content of cassava roots. Split application of CM at 1 and 2 months after planting produced the highest number of roots per plant (6.4-10.0 roots), fresh root weight per plant (2.3-2.6 kg), fresh root yield (2,929-3,320 kg/rai), dry chip yield (1,041-1,213 kg/rai) and starch yield (772-836 kg/rai). However, this was not significantly different from a single application at 1 month after planting which gave profitable marginal rates of return (373-399 percent) and net profits (891-1,404 baht/rai) in both years.
