Comparative studies on the calcium (Ca) content in plant samples determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy when supplementing with lanthanun (La) in the form of LaCl3 and La(NO3)3 for correcting chemical interferences were investigated. The plant samples tested were rice straw, rice grain, corn stubble, corn grain, pummelo leave and tangerine leave. The samples were digested with the mixture acids (Conc.HNO3:Conc.H2SO4:Conc.HCIO 5:1:2). The digested plant samples were supplemented with La at the rate of 0 percent La and 0.75 percent La in the form of LaCl3 and La(NO3)3. The results showed that the plant samples prepared in the presence of 0.75 percent La either in the form of LaCl3 or La(NO3)3 gave significantly higher Ca content than those in the absence of La. The content of Ca in plant samples prepared in the presence of 0.75 percent La in the form of LaCl3 or La(NO3)3 were not different. The efficiency in correcting chemical interferences of La in the form of LaCl3 and La(NO3)3 were similar.
