A study on the different levels of metabolizable energy in the compound feeds for fattening pigs. I. Fattening abilities and balance of nutrients
2008
Petrov, P., Institute of Agriculture, Shumen (Bulgaria)
Two scientific-economic experiments and one balance experiment were carried out at the Agricultural Institute – Shumen. The study included 87 pigs, crosses (LWxL) x BL. The scientific- economic experiments were carried out with 78 pigs divided into three groups with an equal number of male castrated and female pigs. The balance experiment was carried out with 3 “zero” pigs and with 3 pigs from group I and III from the scientific-economic experiments. It was obtained that the increased energy level in the compound feeds from 13.00 to 13.85 and 14.71 MJ metabolizable energy during the first sub-period and from 13.06 to 13.51 and 13.93 MJ during the second one enhanced the gain and decreased the duration of the fattening period. A trend was observed that an increase in the metabolizable energy led to a decrease in the conversion of compound feed, protein, lysine and an increase in the energy conversion per kg gain. The daily fat retention was by 10% higher in the group which received the highest energy level.
