A study of the influence of different threonine levels on the performance of growing pigs

A scientific-economic experiment was carried out at the Agricultural Institute – Shumen. The study included 30 pigs from the Danube White breed, divided into three groups of 10 pigs each. The trial began at 136 days of age and lasted for a period of 106 days until the end of the fattening. The pigs from group I received compound feed with 0,53% threonine. The animals from the other groups received the same compound feed but with added synthetic threonine - 0,06% for group II and 0,12% for group III. The content of nutrients for the animals from group I was in compliance with the Bulgarian norms. The pigs from the three groups practically received equal amounts of compound feed, metabolizable energy, protein and lysine except for threonine. The increase of threonine from 0.53% to 0.59% in the compound feed for the pigs from 30 to 60 kg live weight enhanced the average daily gain by 92 g (Р0.05) and decreased the feed conversion per 1 kg gain by 516 g (Р0.05). Each additionally received gram of threonine enhanced the average daily gain by 30 g (Р0.05) and decreased the feed conversion per 1 kg gain by 169 g (Р0.05). The level of threonine in the compound feed for pigs from 60 to 100 kg live weight did not have a significant effect on the gain and feed conversion per kg gain.
