Mekhandzhijska, E., National Diagnostic and Research Veterinary Institute, Sofia (Bulgaria)
We examined the effectiveness of different macrocyclic lactone endectocides for control ticks on natural infected cattle. The animal were treated per os with Abantel 520 mg bolus and Bulmectin 0.2% premix in different concentrations. The other group of animals receivd a single treatment with a subcutaneous injection of Ivomec super. Significantly fewer ticks per calf were recovered from the group with Ivomec than from the complimentary untreated calves. Avermactins for per oral use must be given in higher doses for ruminants. Even then they protect animals from infestation for a week.
