[The characteristic and economical appointment of pumpkin cultures in Belarus]

The characteristic and appointment of pumpkin, vegetable marrows and bush рumpkin of domestic and foreign breeding for cultivation and industrial processing under conditions of Belarus is presented. Among cultivated species of pumpkins (Cucurbita L.) in the conditions of Belarus the highest and steady crops of fruits and seeds provide varieties of large fruit (Cucurbita maxima D.) and hard peel (Cucurbita реро L.) pumpkins. Hard peel pumpkin has five its bush varieties: vegetable marrow (var. giraumons D.), bush pumpkin (the magician, melopepo L.), (var. subverrucosa W.), vegetable (var. sorediformis F.), (var. fordhuk Cast.). Varieties of muscat pumpkin (Cucurbita moshata D. ех Poir.) are exacting to heat and are lately ripening, and therefore their fruits and seeds badly grow ripe in the conditions of Belarus. Pumpkin species Cucurbita tlcifolia Bouche) and Cucurbita mixta have not received a wide circulation because of low flavouring qualities of fruits, as at they have white colouring of pulp which is deprived some carotin. Pumpkin, vegetable marrow and bush pumpkin are cultivated in Belarus cultivate in a state and a private sector on the area 1,5 thousand ha.
