Results of the long-term investigation of species composition, biotopic distribution and seasonal activity of social wasps (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) inhabiting the territory of Polesje State Radiation and Ecological Nature Reserve of the Republic of Belarus were presented. For the period of 1989-2000 years in 11 biotopes of the nature reserve with the help of Malaise traps there were collected 2945 specimens of Vespidae which represented 43 species (that comprised approximately 80% of Vespidae fauna of Belarus). Peak of activity of the majority of the analysed species was stated in August. For the mason wasps (Eumenidae) the activity peak was stated in June. Number of the social wasps in the forest biotopes (38,1 pcs/season) and in the open ones (33,4 pcs/season) was approximately the same, and for the mason wasps that number was in 3,5 times lower. The most numerous Vespidae species were Vespula rufa (27,4%), Vespula germanica (24,9%), Vespula vulgaris (17,8%), Vespa crabro (12,3%), Dolichovespula saxonica (10,0%), Polistes nimpha (6,5%) and the most numerous species of mason wasps were Symmorphus bifasciatus (15,4%), Ancistrocerus trifasciatus (9,1%), Symmorphus debilitatus (7,5%), Symmorphus murarius (7,2%), Ancistrocerus gazella (6,9%), Euodynerus notatus (6,3%), Symmorphus crassicornis (5,8%), Ancistrocerus nigricornis (5,6%)
