Control biológico del marchitamiento bacteriano de la papa cauasado por Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) en Etiopia: I. Determinación de biovariedades de R. solanacearum en Etiopía.

الأسبانية؛ قشتالية. Ralstonia solanacearum es en un patógeno muy destructivo que causas marchitez en la papa y muchas otras solanáceas en Etiopía. Un aumento en el número de informes indica que el control biológico de la marchitez bacteriana de la papa se podría alcanzar con el uso de microorganismos antagónicos. Para seleccionar los agentes antagónicos eficaces para el biocontrol de las cepas de R. solanacearum es necesario caracterizar la población de las cepas patógenas. Para ello se colectaron 62 cepas de plantas enfermas de papa, tomate y pimienta, y tubérculos de papa procedentes de las principales regiones productoras de Etiopía, que se caracterizaron culturalmente y se clasificaron fisiológicamente según esquemas de la clasificación de Hayward, basados en su capacidad de oxidar tres disacáridos (lactosa, maltosa y celobiosa), y tres hexoalcoholes (manitol, sorbitol y dulcitol). Los resultados de este estudio indicaron que todas las cepas de Etiopía producen colonias fluidas e irregulares con centro rojo y periferia blanquecina en medio cloruro de triphenyl tetrazolium (TZC) después de 48 h de incubación, que es típica a R. solanacearum. En otro medio ácido _casaminopeptona- glucosa (CPG)_ las colonias eran irregulares, fluidas y blancas cremosas, y producen un pigmento marrón después de 48 h. De acuerdo con el esquema de clasificación de Hayward, 19 cepas se agruparon en el biovar I y 43 en el biovar II. Previos estudios hechos en Etiopía registraron solamente la presencia de biovar II de R. solanacearum, y del biovar I es este el primer informe de su población en el país.

إنجليزي. Ralstonia solanacearum is a very destructive pathogen that causes wilt in potato and many other solanaceae crops in Ethiopia. An increasing number of reports have indicated that biological control of potato bacterial wilt could be achieved using antagonistic microorganisms. In order to select effective antagonistic biocontrol agents for the R. solanacearum strains, it is necessary to characterize population of pathogenic strains. Therefore, sixty two strains collected from wilted potato, tomato and pepper plants, and potato tubers from the major potato producing regions of Ethiopia were characterized culturally and classified physiologically according to Hayward's classification scheme, based on their capacity to oxidize three disaccharides (lactose, maltose and cellobiose) and three hexose alcohols (mannitol, sorbitol and dulcitol). The results of this study indicated that all strains from Ethiopia produce fluidal and irregular colonies with red centre and whitish periphery on triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TZC) medium after 48 hours of incubation which is typical to R. solanacearum. On another medium casamino acids-pepton-glucose (CPG) the colonies were irregular, fluidal, and creamy white and produce a brown pigment after 48 hours. Based on Hayward's classification scheme 19 strains were grouped to biovar I and 43 strains to biovar II. Previous studies from Ethiopia reported the availability of only biovar II of R. solanacearum and biovar I this is the first report from Ethiopian R. solanacearum population.
