An experiment was conducted during 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 to study the combining ability and heterosis in Indian mustard [Brassicajuncea (L.) Czernj. Cosson]. Half diallel cross was made using the parents 'Seeta', 'BR 40', 'PusaBarani', 'Pusa Bold', 'CM 3', 'Varuna', 'Narendra Rai' and 'RCC 4'. The F(s were grown during the winter season of 2000-2001. The parents, 'CM 3', 'Pusa Barani', 'Pusa Bold' and 'BR 40' were found good general combiners for seed yield/plant, seeds/siliqua, oil content (), s\Tiquae)plant ana primary branches/plant could be of great help in breeding elite genotypes for yield enhancement in mustard. Similarly, crosses, viz 'BR 40' x 'CM 3', 'Seeta' x 'BR 40', 'Seeta' x Varuna' and 'CM 3'x 'RCC 4', expressed predominance of non-additive gene action, however, brought out the heterosis component for seed yield and other traits could be exploited for hybrid development in Indian mustard.
