In order to improvement native Semsoori population for concentrated yielding , a breeding program was conducted in Varamin Agricultural Research Center. in the first year a mass selection was carried out for high number of fruit per plant , and then program continued in two separated breeding patterns including: Half-Sib recurrent selection and S1 line recurrent selection . the half-sib involve low success because progeny came from one plant had very variation in sex expression , number of fruit per plant , early yield . so half-sib selection was stopped. And S1 full-sib breeding program continued for 3 generations. Trait under selection includesdays to initiate of lateral branch on main stem, Number of female flower and number of fruit per plant. Derived plant from each generation were selfed by hand and their isolated to avoid cross-pollination. Selection in each generation carried out on before inbreed generation and continued to 3 generation . after these three generations , the concentrated yielding showed homogeneity. the developed population was compared with Semsoori local population as maternal population and Niagara as check in RCBD with 3 replication. Analysis of variance showed significant difference yield , early ripening and number of female flower ( P0.05 ). also a highly significant difference was detected in sugar content of fruit (P0.01 ) . the improved population had the most yield , early ripening , number of female flower and fruit sugar . significant difference was detected between native population and improved population of Semsoori cantaloupe. Improved population had no difference with Niagara population in the number of female flower and early ripening. The highest and lowest yield belonged to improved population and native population respectively.
