Study on segregating safflower lines (F3-F5) in order to selection of suitable lines for winter planting in cold dryland conditions
2007
Alizadeh Dizaj, Khoshnoud
This research was conducted on segregating population of safflower as a winter crop in cold drylands. F3-F5 derived from previous crosses at Maragheh research station were evaluated as modified bulk method during three years. The fields were prepared in mid-September and were planted in mid-October. Some characteristics including, germination date, green percent in autumn, green percent in spring, pests and diseases, flowering date, plant height and grain yield were studied during each growing season. Selecting between and within F3 on the base of cold damage resulted to 240 cold tolerant single plants which were planted as separate rows in the F4. Inter and Intra rows selection in F4, discarded 200 genotypes. 25 out of 40 F4 were selected for introductory comparison in F5. 14 cold tolerant superior lines were selected in F5 for advanced trials in cold dryland stations.
