Five hundred and one accessions of medicinal plant were collected from different parts of Ilam province during 2002 to 2006. Based on climatic conditions, the province was divided into different regions. Each region was investigated annually. Necessary information such as scientific name, location, date, site characteristics including slop, direction, altitude, precipitation, temperature, soil texture, vegetation types and companion plants were noted in special forms. During 5 years, 501 specimens from 29 families, 57 genera and 75 species were collected and identified. The result showed that families Lamiaceae, Apiaceae, Asteraceae and Malvaceae with having 31%, 14%, 12.5% and 9% of total accessions had higher frequency, respectively. Some species as: Ferulago (Ferulago angulata), Catmint (Nepeta petraea), Sage (Salvia bracteata) grown in altitude 1500-2000m .Tansy (Tanacetum polycephalum) ,one of the important medicinal species, were collected from altitude higher than 1700m. The most of accessions belong to Sage (Salvia) genera grown in altitude lower than 1500m. Germander (Teucrium polium), Ziziphora (Ziziphora tenuir), Ribwort (Plantago lanceolata) and May weed camomile (Anthemis cotula) were distributed in different parts of province. The species of Colocynth (Citrullus colocynthis), Alcea aucheri, Mignonette (Reseda ucheri), Fleawort (Plantago psyllium) and Caltrop (Tribulus terrestris) grow in hot and dry areas of Ilam. Galarang, Manesht, Kabir Kuh, Gachan, Seyvan kuh, Dinarkuh and Bankul regions had high potential for collection of natural medicinal seed.
