Winter planting of Safflower always has more seed yield as compare to spring planting in drylands of Iran. Due to high adaptability, safflower can be in rotation with Wheat and Chickpea. To evaluate advance varieties on farmer fields this study carried out with 5 promising varieties of safflower along with check variety (Zarghan 279) in winter planting of three locations of Kermanshah province vizDorodfaraman, Sarfirozabad and Slamabad in farmer fields under rainfed conditions. These experiments were conducted in RCBD with 3 replications each variety was planted in 8 rows with 6 m length and 30 cm row spacing. The results showed that PI-537598 had the highest seed and oil yield in Slamabad and Dorodfaraman. In Sarfirozabad difference between its seed yield and highest seed yield was non-significant. Combined analysis of variance showed that mean of seed and oil yield over locations for this line was the highest. Zarghan 279 (check variety) which is cultivated in Iran had the lowest seed and oil yield in all locations. This variety showed the lowest oil content in Slamabad and Sarfirozabad and in average had 2.77 per cent lower than high oil content variety (PI-537598). So, Zarghan 279 (check variety) is not suitable variety for winter planting in rain-fed condition in these areas and PI-537598 is recommended to plant as winter crop in these areas in rotation with Wheat.
