The Study Effect of different amounts of sulpur and zinc on two oilseed rape cultivars

Plant nutrition is one of the most important factors in increasing the yield and quality of Canola (Brassia napus L.). Use of high-yield cultivars without using S and Zn-fertilizers, has made the application of these elements of great importance. In order to investigate the effects of these two elements on quality and quantity of two canola genotypes, an experiment was carried out with 3 replications, using randomized complete block design in Khosrowshahr and Thikmehdash Research Centers during 2004 and 2005 under cultivated soils in which available S and Zn were less than critical level. First factor was S with 3 levels: (0, 200 and 400 kg.ha-1), second factor included Zn with 3 levels: (0, 2, 4 per thousand per ha through foliar application from zinc sulphate source) and third factor was 2 canola genotypes including Okapi and SLM046. The 2-year average results revealed that the highest grain yield was obtained by application of 400 kg sulfur and foliar application of third level of zinc sulphate. Seed yield was the highest in the 2nd year at Tikmehdash Research Center. Application at second rate of S and Zn corresponed maximum pod number per plant. Among genotypes,Okapi had the highest seed yield, thousand seed weight, oil content, protein content and oil. .The highest number of seed per pod was obtained with applicatin of 200 kg.ha-1 S. Likewise, the highest thousand seed weight was obtained with 400 kg.ha-1S. The highest percentage of protein and oil content, plant height and length of inflorescence was obtained with utilization of 400 kg.ha-1 S and 0.004 zinc sulphate. Glucosinolate content of seed increased with increasing sulphur rate from 200 to 400 kg.ha-1S. Okapi genotype had the highest grain yield, thousand kernel weights, oil and protein content in compare with SLM046 accompanied by foliar application of zinc sulphate. More research in determination of sulphur critical level in the calcareous soils with different zinc-fertilizer application methods on the yield and quality of canola oil and its economical return should be studied.
