Vegetation types of gonabad Area،a district in Khorassan provines،is mapped and documented as a result of a comprehensive national project titled &rdquoRecognition of Iranian ecological zones &rdquo. Gonabad area is 1530191 hectare،located on 58𧠗-60ْْْE and 34ْ-35ْN. The most populated areas of the district's are Gonabad،Beidokht،Kackc،Khezri،and Bejestan On the basis of physiognomy and floristic status of the vegetation،rangelands and forests of the district are segmented into vegetation types. Results of the study show that the area of Gonabad's rangelands and forests is 1168557/39 hectares equal to 74,72% of the district's total area. Rangelands and Forest of the district are classified as 30 vegetation types. Having one dominant species in common،vegetation types were put in so called &rdquoplant group&rdquoto ease realization of the situation as follow : - Artemisia has 11 vegetation types covering 885548.63 hectares equal to 56.63% of the total vegetation types. - Salsola tomentosa has 7 vegetation types covering 121017.01 hectares equal to 7.74% of the total vegetation types. - Convolvulus has 3 vegetation types covering 81002.13 hectares equal to 5.18% of the total vegetation types. - Peganum harmala 2 vegetation types covering 21943.23 hectares equal to 1.40% of the total vegetation types - Individuale types 7 vegetation typs covering 59046.3 hectares equal to - 3.78 % of the vegetation types. Nearly 316984.4 hectares equal to 20.27% of total area is allocated to cultivate lands. About 75048.96 hectares equal to 4.8% of total area is allocated to bare lands. About 1661.731 hectares equal to 0.106% of total area is allocated to rock lands and About 1545.815 hectares equal to 0.099% of total area is allocated to rural area .
