This study attempts to increase the high-moisture-paddy adaptability of a head-feeding combine. We introduce a baffle-plate control mechanism with an elastic material that can adjust the open time of the baffle plate according to the flow in the threshing chamber to reduce threshing power when harvesting a high-moisture-paddy. Field tests using a head-feeding combine with this mechanism revealed that threshing power decreased about 7% per day on average compared with the conventional model. Moreover, the baffle-plate control mechanism did not increase chaff loss or threshing loss and did not negatively influence grain quality. Therefore, the baffle-plate control mechanism was useful for increasing the high-moisture-paddy adaptability of a head-feeding combine.
