The bactericidal effect of superfine nanobubbles and high density ozone (SNO) water on Campylobacter jejuni was evaluated. C. jejuni was not detected immediately after 1 ml of C. jejuni culture containing 10E8 bacterial cells was mixed with 300 ml of SNO water (4ppm, 15degC). The full bactericidal effect was observed for 10 min after intake from an SNO water-producing machine but completely disappeared after 2 h. C. jejuni strains were not detected after mixing 1 ml solution of chicken feces containing 10E8 C. jejuni cells with 2,000 to 3,000ml of the ozone waters. The bactericidal effect was observed after washing chicken hides contaminated by 10E4 C. jejuni cells using SNO water (80 ml/s, 90 s). These results suggest that SNO water can be used as a disinfectant for poultry houses and chicken carcasses contaminated by Campylobacter.
