The biting midges of the species complex Obsoletus and Pulicaris were found in Latvia. These species are potential vectors of the blue tongue virus. The flight activity of midges of the genus Culicoides was observed from the end of March till the middle of November with a maximum abundance at the end of May and the beginning of June, and in August.
